Hyderabad: The swift drop in daily new Covid infections and the gradual weakening of the pandemic has revived amateur running in Hyderabad.

On Sunday, close to 10,000 amateur runners and fitness enthusiasts from Hyderabad turned up at two different locations, one at Necklace Road and the other at Durgam Cheruvu cable-stayed bridge, to take part in running events.

At Necklace Road, Hyderabad City Police organised a ‘Gender Equality Run’ on Sunday featuring over 5,000 women drawn from various backgrounds including students, homemakers, working women and amateur runners.

The ‘Gender Equality Run’, which was flagged off by Hyderabad Police Commissioner, CV Anand, had 2k and 5k running events. “Telangana police has prioritized women safety and that’s why She Teams were launched. As a result, Hyderabad is the safest city in India for women,” he said.

Senior police officials including Additional CP (law and order) DS Chauhan, Additional CP (Crimes) AR Srinivas and others were present.

At Durgam Cheruvu, the Inorbit Mall organised second edition of Durgam Cheruvu Run-2022, which attracted nearly 3,000 runners. The event, which was organised with the theme #RUNFORINCLUSION, raised Rs. 30 lakh for skill development and employment for people with disabilities.

The Inorbit mall run featured 21K, 10K and 5K, which were flagged off by Cyberabad Police Commissioner, Stephen Raveendra, IT Secretary, Jayesh Ranjan and MA&UD Secretary, Arvind Kumar respectively.
