Hyderabad: In light of the impending lunar eclipse, hundreds of Ganesh idols were lined up at Hussain Sagar for immersion on Friday, a day ahead of the scheduled centralised immersion on Saturday.
Large numbers of heavy vehicles, trolleys, trucks, and mini DCMs gathered, with Ganesh idols of various sizes, waiting for their turn to be immersed at Hussain Sagar Lake. The queue began forming at 9 am on Friday and steadily increased after 1 pm.
Officials from the GHMC and police managed the sudden surge of vehicles and operated cranes to facilitate the immersion process at NTR Gardens, Necklace Road, and Tank Bund.
Although the lunar eclipse is scheduled for September 7, Ganesh pandal organisers reportedly advanced the timing of the immersion rituals, with many opting to complete the process before the onset of eclipse.
Meanwhile, devotees also visited the Khairatabad Ganesh idol on Friday, despite the Ganesh Utsav Committee’s announcement of restrictions due to preparations for the idol’s immersion.
