Karimnagar: Huzurabad town bandh call given by the local MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy against the state government’s decision to establish a dumping yard (waste to energy plant) near Sirsapalli evoked a good response on Friday.

All business establishments including hotels, kirana stores, petrol bunks and other establishments were closed in support of the bandh.

Municipal councillors, BRS leaders and followers of MLA Kaushik Reddy took out a bike rally in the town. Touring different localities, they appealed to the business community and local people to support the bandh by explaining the difficulties with the dumping yard.

Later, they staged a protest demonstration at Ambedkar Chowk and raised slogans against the state government and municipal officials for their decision to set up a dumping yard near Huzurabad.

Speaking on the occasion, Kaushik Reddy made it clear that there was no question of allowing the government to establish a dumping yard and warned that the agitation would be intensified if the officials went ahead with their decision.

He said a two-day hunger strike would be launched on April 7 and 8 if the government failed to take back its decision. Police made tight security arrangements to avert any untoward incidents during the bandh.
