Karimnagar: Huzurabad MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy participated in Iloni Mallanna Jatara held near Sirsapalli of Huzurabad mandal on Sunday. The historic Iloni Mallanna temple is located near the proposed Sirsapalli dumping yard, which has been opposed by the local people.

Amid ‘kolatams’ and ‘oggu dolu’ performances, the MLA, along with people from nearby villages, went to the temple on foot and offered pujas. Later, participating in a meeting organised by Sirsapalli sarpanch Polasani Rama Rao, the legislator came down heavily on the state government for its decision to set up a dump yard near the historic temple.

Farmers from nearby villages would lose their precious lands. Moreover, the price of land would decline drastically. The price of land near Huzurabad and its surrounding areas rose to Rs 2 crore from Rs 25,000 per acre following the construction of Kaleshwaram project and introduction of Rythu Bandhu scheme in the BRS regime.

However, nobody would come forward to spend even Rs 4 lakh per acre if the dump yard was established, he warned. Promising to continue the agitation against the dump yard, Kaushik Reddy made it clear that he was ready to face police cases and even go to jail to protect the properties and livelihood of people of Huzurabad constituency.

Terming the state government’s decision to acquire 500 acres of land as ridiculous, he demanded that the government cancel the proposal to set up the dump yard. Besides Huzurabad and Jammikunta, people from nine mandals such as Keshapatnam, Elkathurthy, Bheemadevarapalli, Saidapur and others would be affected, he said and informed that the agitation would be intensified.
