Huzurabad: BJP leader Eatala Rajender found himself deeply entangled in the web of lies he had spun to escape the wrath of a grieving mother in Pedapapaiahpally recently. Vijayamma gave a tongue-lashing to the BJP candidate when he visited the village to campaign recently, holding him responsible for the death of her son Bashaboina Praveen Kumar, a TRS leader, last year allegedly after he was tortured by the police.

While the genesis of the tragic episode lay in the death of Praveen Kumar, the truth came out when TRS candidate Gellu Srinivas Yadav chronicled the entire happenings that led to the former losing his job, police arresting him on cooked up charges, torture and subsequent death. Srinivas Yadav, speaking to the media after meeting Vijayamma in the village, revealed that contrary to Rajender’s claims of having helped the family, Praveen Kumar was a victim of harassment mainly engineered by the BJP leader who was then a Minister and MLA representing Huzurabad Assembly constituency.

Slamming Rajender for claiming that he had helped Praveen Kumar get a job as a records assistant and before that, getting his father a job in the Electricity Department, Srinivas Yadav revealed that Praveen Kumar got the job without anyone’s recommendation. His father too landed the job in the Electricity Department as part of compensation for a sub-station that was set up on his land.

The sordid background that preceded Praveen Kumar’s death was nothing short of mental torture. Praveen, a BTech graduate with knowledge of computers, applied at the District Collectorate office for a job and subsequently, Varadhi, the wing that handles schemes like KCR Kits, offered him the job.

Later, Rajender, who probably took a dislike to Praveen, started putting pressure on the superintendent to remove the latter from the job. The superintendent was also putting pressure on Praveen to make false entries, projecting Cesarean deliveries as normal deliveries. When he refused to yield and instead, warned that he would bring it to the notice of MA&UD Minister KT Rama Rao, he was removed from service within hours.

Praveen had even moved the courts and State Human Rights Committee against his being axed from the job under pressure from the then Minister, and these cases have still not been closed, nailing Rajender’s lie that he had only helped Praveen. Praveen was later picked up by police on false cases foisted by the superintendent who claimed that the former was blackmailing him. He was allegedly thrashed up which resulted in damage to his kidneys that finally led to his death, leaving behind his mother, a 20-year-old wife and one-year-old son.

“When we enquired with Vijayamma as to who helped in getting a job, she said sarpanch Bhaskar Reddy helped since her family lost land to pave way for a canal,” Srinivas Yadav said, adding that Vijayamma also made it clear that her family never approached Rajender for help. This is yet another example of Rajender’s desperation to project an image that doesn’t really gel with his character – that of a good Samaritan when he has let down the entire electorate of his constituency for the past 17 years.
