Huzurabad residents protest against dumping yard near Sirsapalli
Residents of Huzurabad and nearby villages staged a protest at the Karimnagar Collectorate, opposing the proposed dumping yard near Sirsapalli. They warned of intensified agitation, citing risks to groundwater, agriculture and public health if the project proceeds
Karimnagar: People from Huzurabad and surrounding villages staged a protest demonstration at the Collectorate office, demanding that the state government withdraw its plan to establish a dumping yard near Sirsapalli of Huzurabad mandal on Monday.
Local people, who have been continuing ‘deekshas’ in Huzurabad against the dumping yard for the last 30 days under the aegis of JAC, came to the Collectorate office to give a representation to the district officials in Prajavani.
As they were not allowed inside the Collectorate, they staged a protest in front of the main entrance gate. Speaking on the occasion, they found fault with the state government for not responding to their deekshas being continued for the last 30 days.
They said that besides contamination of groundwater, fertile lands would become barren due to the dumping yard. There was a possibility that children and aged people could be infected with chronic diseases such as cancer and others if groundwater was polluted.
Demanding the government to take back its decision, they warned that they would intensify the agitation if the government failed to drop its proposal. Later, they gave a representation to the Collector.
