Hyderabad: AIG Hospitals launches ‘Break the Weight’ initiative on World Obesity Day

Hyderabad: Asian Institute of Gastroenterology (AIG) Hospitals on Tuesday, coinciding with World Obesity Day, launched ‘Break the Weight’ initiative, aimed at bringing together healthcare professionals, policymakers, and public and find sustainable solutions on weight loss.

On the occasion, AIG Hospitals announced the launch of Centre for Obesity and Metabolic Therapy along with a website providing expert consultations and treatment information, press release said. The AIG hospitals also committed to conduct the awareness program annually to promote healthier lifestyles.

CV Anand, Commissioner of Police, shared his insights on the far-reaching impact of obesity beyond just diet and lifestyle. “Obesity is shaped by lifestyle, environment, societal influences, and stress and not by food choices,” he said.

Dr D Nageshwar Reddy, Chairman, AIG Hospitals, raised concerns over India’s growing obesity rates. “Obesity is not just a Western issue since 60 per cent of Indians are overweight, and 30 per cent are on the path to obesity,” he said. Dr Rakesh, Director of Endoscopy (Bariatric & Metabolic Sciences) at AIG Hospitals, and other senior doctors were present.
