Hyderabad: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) will hold a protest meeting against the Waqf (Amendment) Act on April 19 at Darussalam grounds. AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday said the meeting would be held under the leadership of AIMPLB president Khalid Saifullah Rahmani from 7 pm to 10 pm.
Members of the Muslim Personal Law Board from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh along with other Muslim organisations would take part in the meeting. The speakers would explain to the public about how the Waqf (Amendment) Act is not in favour of the Waqf.
The AIMIM president said they were also trying to talk to the members of the Parliament Waqf Committee and if their schedule permits, they can also attend this public meeting. He said that as many as 49 amendments passed in the Parliament regarding the Waqf Amendment Bill have no connection with Waqf.
Asaduddin said according to the new law, the central Waqf body needs to have 11 non-Muslims, and the state Waqf body will have seven non-Muslims. The endowments board of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), Jain and Gurudwaras have members of their religious body only. “Then, why are Muslims being asked to have non-Muslims on Waqf boards?” he questioned.
Asaduddin said, “We are against the law brought by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government, which will create more disputes and take away the title of Waqf from properties. I appeal to all to protest this Act peacefully.”
