Muslim protesters hold placards during a demonstration against the Central government's recently-introduced Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 at Darulshafa Grounds in the old city of Hyderabad following Friday prayers.
Hyderabad: The city was rocked by protests on Friday over the Waqf (Amendment) Act introduced recently in the country.
Rallies and dharnas were held at different places in and around Hyderabad demanding the government withdraw the Bill. The protestors termed it as ‘unconstitutional’ and demanded its immediate withdrawal.
At Mecca Masjid, a group of youngsters took out a rally and raised slogans against the BJP party and demanded the withdrawal of the Waqf Amendment Bill. At Saidabad, Ujale Shah Eidgah a group of local people staged a protest with similar demands. A protest was also held at Darulshifa grounds by the Darsgah Jihad o Shahadat.
A big rally was taken out at BHEL in the city outskirts in which a few hundred people carrying national flags and placards participated. The rally culminated at Ambedkar statue at BHEL. At Serilingampally, a big rally was taken out by the local residents.
The Students Islamic Organisation organised a protest at Mehdipatnam for around half an hour. The protestors holding placards raised slogans against the Bill and termed it as unconstitutional and aimed at targeting a particular community.
Reports of protestors came in from Yakutpura, Mallepally, Shaheennagar, Amberpet, and other localities in the city.
The police had made elaborate arrangements in the city anticipating protests in the city. No untoward incident was reported anywhere.
