Hyderabad: Hyderabad could be at the centre of South India’s high-speed rail network, with the Centre proposing a bullet train corridor that would connect the city to Amaravati in just 70 minutes.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had recently indicated the proposal while outlining an ambitious roadmap for high-speed rail connectivity across southern India.
As per the proposal, the Hyderabad–Amaravati corridor is expected to significantly reduce travel time between the two state capitals, strengthening business, investment and passenger connectivity.
He said the project is targeted for completion within seven to eight years, subject to statutory approvals, funding, and execution. The proposed corridor forms part of a wider high-speed rail network linking Hyderabad with Amaravati, Chennai, Bengaluru, Pune and Mumbai to create a major economic corridor across southern India.
For Hyderabad, the project is expected to enhance connectivity with neighbouring Andhra Pradesh while boosting trade, tourism and regional development.
However, the proposal is still in its planning stage, and details such as the final alignment, station locations and timelines will be finalised after detailed project studies and approvals.
