Hyderabad: Amid high tension, the teams of Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (Hydraa) on Saturday reclaimed 36 acres of government land at Bikshapathi Nagar in Kondapur.
Farmers claimed they did not encroach on the land, and the government distributed pattas in their names. A heated argument ensued between Hydraa teams and the farmers, who attempted to resist the JCBs. The occupants also claimed that they have been staying over the past three decades.
However, the local police foiled the resistance and continued with the demolitions. Hydraa identified some permanent structures, and a few more were tin sheds put up on the government land. Demolition began in the early hours of Saturday.
“A total of 36 acres of government land in Sy No: 59 near the Kondapur RTO office was encroached upon by some individuals. Following a High Court ruling, Hydraa initiated the removal of these encroachments on Saturday. Hydraa cleared out those who set up temporary sheds and were conducting business there,” according to an official statement from Hydraa.
Amid tight security, after demolishing the illegal structures, Hydraa fenced the government land by putting up signboards to designate it as government property, warning that trespassers will be prosecuted. “The reclaimed land cost could be around Rs 3,600 crore” , said the statement.
