Hyderabad: IT and Industries Minister KT Rama Rao on Monday said Hyderabad was the best fit for Formula E racing that promotes electric mobility and renewable energy solutions since the State’s EV and Storage Policy also aims to do the same.
It moves away from fossil fuel-based internal combustion engines to electric vehicles, and this is one of the key steps towards creating a clean, green and sustainable environment for ourselves and for future generations, he said, adding: “We will witness a revolution of electric vehicles in India and Telangana wants to be the epicentre of this revolution. We want to be in the forefront leading the entire country.”
“We are working with several large automobile manufacturers and other ecosystem players to set up a Mobility Cluster. We want to make sure that the EV adoption is easy and charging infrastructure is in place. We have received interest from several vehicle manufacturers and we have two industrial parks dedicated for this sector. We also are going to be home to four electric bus manufacturers, who will construct their factories soon. We are also in discussion with three cell manufacturing companies. We will also encourage battery recycling units, which will become important in the future,” Rama Rao explained about the efforts Telangana is putting to give an impetus to the EV industry.
Power production in Telangana increased four-fold in the last seven years. About 20 per cent of the total power production is from solar (clean) energy and Telangana stands second in this aspect, he said.
Rama Rao said industrial expansion cannot happen at the cost of environment. “Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has launched a massive afforestation drive- Haritha Haram- for greening. Through this programme, Telangana has been able to plant about two billion saplings and more than 85 per cent of these have survived and this our green cover increase massively in the last two years,” he said adding that Hyderabad also topped in the greening efforts. It is one of the fastest growing cities in the world and is ranked high by agencies like the JLL and Mercer for many years. It continues to build on its infrastructure under the SRDP.
“We are excited about our potential entry to India and Hyderabad truly has the necessary ingredients to be a probable host from the next season. It has always been our desire to come to India as it a major automotive market quickly adopting electric vehicles. We hope Formula E can accelerate this change,” said FIA Formula E Chief Championship Officer Alberto Longo.
