Hyderabad: The International Women’s Day celebrations in Hyderabad on Tuesday featured a series of innovative events that revolved around celebrating and recognising the important role that women play in all walks of life.
Corporate companies, private firms, schools, educational and research institutions, hospitals and voluntary organisations in Hyderabad pulled all stops, to hold the International Women’s Day celebrations and recognise the importance of women empowerment and gender equality.
In a novel gesture, GHMC Mayor, Gadwal Vijayalakshmi and Deputy Mayor, Mothe Srilatha Shoban Reddy hosted lunch for women sanitation workers at GHMC head office and shared a meal with them. Deputy Mayor also participated in a 2K walk with the theme ‘Women, your health first’ organised by Kamineni Hospitals, LB Nagar and attended Women’s Day celebrations organised by ICSI.
The National Federation of the Blind, Telangana conducted an awareness meet for visually impaired students at BDL community hall, Sangareddy in which women weightlifter Rekha Inturi shared her experiences while following her dreams to excel in her sport.
Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) celebrated the day by holding a special lecture on the topic ‘Big potential in tiny bugs: From ailment to health & from waste to wealth’, delivered by Distinguished Chief Scientist, TCS Research, TCS, Dr Sharmila Mande.
Corporate hospitals including Continental Hospitals, SLG Hospitals, Medicover Hospitals, Ankura Hospital organised special programmes to recognise the vital role that women play in health care services.
