Hyderabad: These days, the ongoing road infrastructure works at Nanakramguda and Tolichowki have turned commuting on these stretches into a miserable experience.
Apart from considerably slowing down the movement of vehicles on this busy stretch, the conditions for commuting have deteriorated with thick plumes of dust and gravel spread out on the road. Heavy dust emitted from ongoing civil works in Nanakramguda and Tolichowki is causing inconvenience for the commuters and raising concerns.
The gravel spread across the road and surrounding area makes driving a tough experience, with two-wheelers in particular risking skidding and falling down. In fact, commuters say, there have been instances of cars struggling and failing to move smoothly, and two-wheelers slipping and falling.
The dust and gravel are linked to deep earth excavation and construction of pillars for a three-lane flyover connecting Nanakramguda to Tolichowki, along with a three-lane underpass from Tolichowki to Biodiversity Junction.
Ramesh Kumar, a frustrated commuter, said, “This activity posed a high health risk, and is leading to accidents too. The civic body should ensure that they take up work during nighttime.”
Civic body authorities usually prohibit earth excavation works during daytime as office-goers and daily commuters face inconvenience due to dust formation, and the agency concerned had to carry out these works during nighttime only.
But, at Nanakramguda, the norms seem to be thrown out of the window, and the earth excavation works are continued during daytime, that too at peak hours. As a result, layers of dust formed on the helmets on four-wheeler shields.
A senior CMC engineering official said, “The issue will be resolved after speaking with the agency concerned and directions issued to take up work during nighttime to avoid inconvenience to commuters.”
