Hyderabad: The Hyderabad City Police have denied permission for a ‘Prajaswamya Parirakshana’ rally proposed by the Bharatiya Janata Party in Secunderabad on Tuesday citing the pandemic and orders of the State government in the light of High Court observations on the Omicron variant and Covid-19 pandemic.
The rally was slated to have BJP national president JP Nadda, Union Minister G Kishan Reddy and others.
The BJP had sought permission for the rally between 5 pm and 8 pm from Ranigunj to MG Road in Secunderabad.
The police said they had received intelligence inputs that the organizers were trying to mobilize a large number of party cadres and supporters for the programme.
“Such a large gathering will result in severe traffic congestion and choking at important junctions of Hyderabad including commercial areas of General Bazaar, CTC Market and Ranigunj,” the police said, adding that some miscreants may take undue advantage of the situation and create problems and disturbance resulting in serious threat to law and order and also violence and damage to public and private property.
Additional force has been posted at Ranigunj and other places to prevent any attempt of the BJP to take out the rally.
