Hyderabad crimes reveal challenge of tracking interstate gangs
Tracking interstate criminal gangs remains a major challenge for police as offenders flee Hyderabad after crimes. From the Afzalgunj travel agency shooting to jewellery and ATM heists, suspects often escape to Bihar, UP, MP, Chhattisgarh, or even Nepal, evading capture
Hyderabad: Interstate criminal gangs are hard to track down after an offence. The best example is the two criminals who fired and injured a manager of a travel agency at Afzalgunj in January this year.
The duo had shot dead two security guards in Bidar in neighbouring Karnataka before looting cash and came to the city. When they boarded a bus at Afzalgunj with two luggage bags, the manager checked the bags and noticed currency notes. On being questioned about the money, one of the suspects fired at the travel’s manager.
Both the criminals then escaped. It’s been more than seven months, and the duo has not been caught so far. They are believed to have crossed over into Nepal. Both suspects are from Chhattisgarh and Bihar.
In the latest case, at Chandanagar, two persons involved in the dacoity at Khazana jewelry store were caught initially while five others were caught over a period of time. All of the suspects are from Bihar.
In the Adibatla ATM case, the police managed to nab some suspects of the Haryana-based gang while the remaining continue to abscond.
“Once the gang enters Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, or Chhattisgarh, it is difficult to nab them. Sometimes, they cross over into neighbouring countries through unmanned border villages,” said a police official.
