Hyderabad: Heart surgeons at Gleneagles Global Hospitals, Lakdikapul saved the life of an 80-year-old woman who had a congenital heart defect and suffered a heart attack.
According to surgeons, instead of the normal left sided, the elderly woman had a right-sided aortic arch, a rare congenital anomaly.
“The patient was admitted to the hospital in a critical state. Due to rare right sided origin of aorta, a team of senior cardiac surgeons adopted an innovative approach and successfully treated the major vessel which was 100 percent occluded,” Dr. Sai Sudhakar, Chief Cardiologist, Gleneagles Global Hospitals.
The cardiologists performed angiogram and angioplasty to place the stent, which saved the life of the woman. “Post procedure, we kept the patient under close observation for a couple of days and on realizing she was responding well to the treatment and her vitals got stabilized, she was discharged to return to her daily routine,” added Dr. Sai Sudhakar.
The patient’s daughter was elated once her mother was out of danger and was working fine after the procedure, added CEO Mr. Gaurav Khurana, Gleneagles Global Hospitals.
