Hyderabad doctors save woman from rare C-section scar ectopic pregnancy
A 27-year-old woman in Hyderabad was saved from a rare and life-threatening Caesarean scar pregnancy at BirthRight by Rainbow Hospitals. Initially misdiagnosed as a miscarriage, the condition went undetected for over a month, putting her at risk of severe haemorrhage and infertility.
Hyderabad: Gynaecologists at BirthRight by Rainbow Hospitals saved a 27-year-old woman suffering from a Cesarean Scar Pregnancy (CSP)—a rare, life-threatening form of ectopic pregnancy where the embryo implants directly into the scar tissue of a previous C-section.
For over a month, the patient endured bleeding, progressive weakness, and psychological distress after initially being misdiagnosed with an incomplete miscarriage.
Detailed diagnosis at the hospital’s Financial District branch revealed that the crisis was not a standard miscarriage, but a severe Caesarean scar ectopic pregnancy.
Hospital doctors noted that the condition had remained undiagnosed for more than 30 days, silently placing her at risk of catastrophic uterine haemorrhage and permanent loss of fertility.
Dr. Manasa Badveli, Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, BirthRight by Rainbow Hospitals, identified a large, highly vascularized tissue mass deeply embedded at the site of the previous surgical scar.
A multidisciplinary medical team completely excised the ectopic mass using minimally invasive laparoscopic keyhole surgery. The structural Caesarean scar defect was then repaired using a specialized two-layer uterine reconstruction technique to safeguard her future fertility, a press release said.
“Persistent bleeding after a miscarriage, particularly in women with a history of Caesarean sections, should never be ignored and always warrants a careful, specialized evaluation,” Dr. Badveli said.
