Hyderabad: Over 500 residents of Vasavi Brundavanam, Janapriya, Kalpataru, Brigade Citadel and surrounding areas in Erragadda on Saturday held a protest against the State government’s proposal to allot land located adjacent to their locality for a graveyard.
Women, children, senior citizens and employees took part in the protest, displaying placards and raising slogans, demanding withdrawal of the proposal. The protest was organised in response to the government orders for land surveying and a letter written by the Medchal-Malkajgiri District Collector to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on December 31, 2025.
The chairman of the JAC of Brigade Citadel, Kalpataru, Vasavi Brindavan and adjoining colonies at Erragadda, C Hanumantha Naidu, said that establishing a graveyard in the vicinity of the residential area was unacceptable. “We urge the government to either reconsider and allocate an alternative location or withdraw the proposal,” he said.
The officials had told the residents that the land issue was sub judice, and questioned how the government was allotting the land parcel for a graveyard when the matter was sub judice.
The JAC chairman said that representatives of all the colonies would soon meet the Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and urge him to resolve the issue.
