Paint the city pink: breast cancer awareness drive
Hyderabad: Several iconic monuments and buildings of Hyderabad were illuminated in pink on Monday evening for the record 16th consecutive year to mark the beginning of International Breast Cancer awareness month of October.
An initiative of Hyderabad-based Ushalakshmi Breast Cancer Foundation (UBCF), landmark historical structures including Charminar, Buddha statue and prominent buildings including T-Hub, Prasads Imax, Durgam Cheruvu cable bridge and Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) were illuminated in pink, to spread awareness on the importance of early detection of breast cancer.
Illumination of prominent buildings in pink is just one way to attract the attention and curiosity of people and raise the awareness about importance of early detection of breast cancer, said Dr. P. Raghu Ram, Founder, CEO and Director, UBCF, who has been spearheading the Pink Ribbon Campaign since 16 years.
“The aim of painting the city pink campaign is to spread the message of hope, survival and courage to those who have fought breast cancer, and equally remind people that women over 40 must get themselves an annual screening mammogram to detect breast cancer early”.
