Hyderabad: The IT Hub of Hyderabad, right now concentrated in the western side of the city towards Madhapur, Hitec City and Gachibowli, is looking to spread its wings across the city.
Many companies are eyeing to expand their base to the northern and eastern parts of the city, which interestingly, is in tune with the State government’s ambitious plan of setting IT parks under the Growth in Dispersion (GRID) policy.
“There is a huge demand for office spaces in this part of the city with almost 200 small and medium IT enterprises looking to set up shop here. All of these companies are ready to move here as the plan materialises. Close to 500 acres has been identified in Kompally and Medchal area and is being acquired,” says Oruganti Venkat, president, Kompally IT Entrepreneurs Association (KITEA), and managing director, Lasya IT Solutions.
Terming the northern part of the city as the ‘Golden Gateway’ to Telangana, Venkat also said in the last five to six years there has been huge growth in terms of residential property, entertainment zones, restaurants, hospitals, and schools.
“These are the major prerequisites for any IT employee, and this area has seen a huge growth in these terms since the State formation. Not just this, Kompally and beyond is situated in a zone that is not prone to flooding,” highlights Venkat.
Providing details on the efforts being made by the government, Vijay Rangineni, CEO, IT Investments, Telangana, said, “The government is keen on setting up its building and tower to attract more investments from the IT companies that are particularly in the SME space.”
Currently, there are about 200 IT SMEs operating in locations like Kompally, Uppal, and non-western parts of the city. In addition, reports also suggest that more than 100-150 IT companies based in the western region are willing to relocate to avail incentives.
Under the GRID policy, the State government permitted converting industrial parks of Kukatpally, Gandhinagar, Balanagar, Uppal, Mallapur, Moula Ali and Sanatnagar, Ramachandrapuram Ancillary Industrial Estate (AIE), Nacharam, and Katedan Industrial Area into IT parks apart from partial conversion of the Patancheru Industrial Development Area.
Another IT park is proposed in the vicinity of Kollur and Osmansagar apart from an IT Tower at Kompally.
