Hyderabad: Demanding conversion of quarters for research scholars (RSQ1) into hostel for boys, the Students Protection Forum and JNTU-Hyderabad Protection Force on Thursday staged a protest at the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU)-Hyderabad administration building.
The RSQ1 has turned into a haven for PhD completed candidates, guest lecturers and unauthorised persons, the protesting students asserted.
JNTU-H Protection Force student activists Rahul Naik and Shivakrishna, who lamented about pathetic living conditions in the boys’ hostel, spoke about drainage seepage issues from the upper to lower floors.
Stating that only a couple of eligible students were residing in RSQ1, students wanted the university administration to shift them to the B5 quarters and convert the RSQ1 into boys’ hostel, which could accommodate 250-300 students.
Demanding the withdrawal of sanitation agency services and calling in for new tenders, students wanted the administration to rope in the services of the GHMC to fix the drainage leakage issue and sanitation upkeep, until a new sanitation agency was appointed.
They also demanded that the water purifiers are cleaned regularly.
