Hyderabad: Three residents, including two women, were taken into custody after a packet allegedly containing bones and non-vegetarian food waste was thrown from a Police Housing Society building near Chanchalguda Cross Roads during a Ganesh immersion and Annadanam programme on Sunday.

The incident occurred around 3 pm at the 2BHK Police Housing Society in Madannapet.

According to the police, the suspected material, described by police as being like beef, was allegedly thrown from the building while the religious programme was underway.

Charminar Zone DCP Kiran Khare said the three residents were identified and taken into custody for questioning.

The incident triggered protests by BJP leaders and Hindu organisations at Chanchalguda, with protesters demanding stringent action.

Police deployed additional personnel in the area as a precaution.

DCP Khare said the situation was later brought under control and traffic movement returned to normal.

He also appealed to people not to circulate rumours or unverified information on social media.
