Hyderabad, northern Telangana receive moderate to heavy rainfall

Several Telangana districts, including Hyderabad, received moderate to heavy rainfall after a prolonged September dry spell. Karimnagar’s Kothapalle recorded the highest rainfall at 76 mm, while Hyderabad and Medchal-Malkajgiri witnessed localised showers and waterlogging

Hyderabad: After a gap that lasted for nearly the entire month of September, several districts in Telangana, including Hyderabad, witnessed moderate to heavy rainfall from the early hours of Saturday.

While some districts witnessed heavy rainfall of more than 64.4 mm, Hyderabad and surrounding districts recorded moderate rainfall ranging from 15.4 mm to 64.4 mm.

According to rainfall data from the Telangana Development Planning Society (TSDPS), between 8.30 am and 6 pm on Sunday, interior and northern districts of Telangana recorded the highest rainfall.

Kothapalle in Karimnagar district received the maximum rainfall of 76 mm, followed by Narayanraopet in Siddipet with 58 mm, Wargal with 52.3 mm, Jukkal with 55 mm and Jagtial with 53.5 mm. Additional significant rainfall was recorded in Kumuram Bheem (51.8 mm), Nirmal (46.8 mm), Rangareddy (46.8 mm), Adilabad (39.8 mm) and Nizamabad (39.0 mm).

Meanwhile, the urban centres of Hyderabad and Medchal-Malkajgiri also witnessed sharp, localised spells of rain during the early and afternoon hours on Sunday. In Medchal-Malkajgiri, Kapra mandal recorded 36.5 mm, while Medchal and Keesara recorded 28 mm and 26 mm, respectively. Within Hyderabad district, Musheerabad mandal recorded 34.8 mm of rainfall, contributing to localised waterlogging and cooler atmospheric conditions.
