Hyderabad: In just one week, the Rachakonda Traffic Police booked over 47,000 cases and imposed a fine of over Rs.1.4 crore on traffic violators.
During the week, 55 accidents, in which 10 people were killed, were reported. Officials said human errors including negligent driving, over-speeding and drunk driving were the causes.
As per Traffic Police data, during various special drives conducted across the city as part of enforcement, 47,224 Motor Vehicle Act cases were booked under various heads and a fine of Rs.1,44,58,100 was imposed from October 9 to 15.
To curb the menace of drunk driving, the Traffic wing booked 107 cases with the violators being counseled at the Traffic Training Institutes. Of these, 49 were produced before court with a fine of Rs 1.5 lakh being imposed.
“As for the accidents, it has been observed that most of the accidents occurred due to human error and road engineering defects. Some of the notable human errors include negligent driving, overspeeding, drunk driving and self-skidding of vehicles,” a senior official said. The Traffic Engineering Cell staff along with inter-department officials visited eight recent fatal mishap spots and studied the causes.
“Short term, mid-term and long term correctional measures were suggested. The Traffic Engineering Cell staff are continuously coordinating and monitoring the suggestions to rectify the black spots,” the official said.
