Hyderabad: City Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar praised the crucial role of Home Guards in maintaining law and order, while announcing that a Home Guard Co-operative Society will soon be established to support their welfare.
He was speaking at the Home Guards Raising Day celebrations held at the CAR Headquarters in Petlaburj on Saturday, where he inspected the parade and received the guard of honour.
The commissioner pointed out that around 5,000 Home Guards were serving in the city and said 2,000 members have already enrolled in the proposed Co-operative society. He said the government was actively considering the allocation of double-bedroom houses for eligible Home Guards.
Sajjanar further instructed all Home Guards to renew their driving licences, warning that failure to do so may affect insurance claims in the event of road accidents. Strict action will be taken against those negligent in their duty or involved in corrupt practices, he added.
Ex-gratia cheques were also handed over to the families of 18 Home Guards, who had died.
