Hyderabad: The Task Force (South) team along with the local police raided a gaming house and nabbed 24 persons including four organisers on charges of ‘Satta’ betting at Shahinayathgunj on Wednesday.
Officials seized cash of Rs 30,760, satta chits, lottery chart and 15 mobile phones from them.
The arrested persons were Vishal Singh, the main organiser from Jummerat Bazaar, Naresh Kumar, Aniket Singh, Akshay Singh, all sub-organisers and 20 punters. All are residents of Hyderabad.
According to the police, Vishal Singh, who is an idol maker, also runs a pan shop at Jummerat Bazaar. Owing to his meager income, he decided to organize Satta betting, a game of chance to earn easy money illegally.
Vishal started a Satta gaming house by renting a room beside his pan shop and also engaged sub-organisers by offering them deep commissions. The sub-organisers roped in habitual punters from the area and were running Satta out of the rented room.
“They mainly targeted auto-rickshaw drivers, labourers, hotel workers by building hope for them to earn easy money by playing this game. Believing them, these punters from low income groups get subsequently addicted to Satta betting by using their hard earned money,” said a senior Task Force official.
Based on a tip-off, the police team raided the gaming house and nabbed the suspects and seized the material.
The arrested suspects along with the seized material were handed over to the Shahinayathgunj police for further action.
