Hyderabad: Four months ahead of summer, HMWSSB has drawn up its summer action plan for 2026. The board is preparing measures to ensure uninterrupted water supply and address potential shortages during the peak season.
On Friday, the HMWSSB managing director, K Ashok Reddy convened a meeting with the officials concerned at Khairatabad and emphasised the need for meticulous planning to ensure an uninterrupted drinking water supply within the GHMC and ORR areas.
The MD asked the officials to develop micro-level plans for the upcoming summer to maintain supply levels. He stressed the need for continuous monitoring of water allocations and suggested arrangements for adjustments in areas with low supply.
Considering the summer demand, he advised planning for water supply through tankers. With 1,150 tankers, 90 tanker filling stations, and 150 filling points already in the city, he suggested proposals for additional filling stations based on demand.
In the next five years, construction of 50,000 rainwater harvesting pits within the ORR area to allow 5 to 10 TMC of water to seep into the ground could eliminate the need for future Krishna drinking water supply schemes and other new water supply projects, he said.
