Hyderabad: Imparting holistic education along with industry-academia interaction, the Roots Collegium has been supporting the students in climbing further up their career ladder for the last 30 years.
Established by BP Padala, a first-generation entrepreneur hailing from a farmer’s family in a rural area in Warangal district, the college began its journey in 1991 in Somajiguda with intermediate education. It specialised in coaching for IIT-JEE and produced 120 IIT rankers besides helping 2,000 students get into various engineering courses.
The college management forayed into liberal arts too as there were no good colleges at that time offering the same in the city. While doing away with the science programmes, MEC, CEC and HEC were introduced. The MEC and CEC courses are being offered with coaching for CLAT, while the HEC is taught with Civil Services Examination orientation.
The Roots Collegium has several firsts to its credit. It was the first college under Osmania University to introduce BBA in 2008. Presently, BBA, BCom General, BCom Sales, BA Mass Communication, BCom Business Analytics and BSc Data Sciences are on offer.
One of the USPs of the college has been the introduction of Toastmasters Club, which helps students in interpersonal and public speaking skills. It also has an entrepreneurs club for preparing young winds towards entrepreneurship and an incubation centre as well. Courses such as hotel management, catering technology and culinary arts programmes, fashion design, interior design, graphic design courses too are offered.
Direction, advertising and digital marketing, direction and cinematography, direction and production, direction and scriptwriting, direction and editing, and photography and digital imaging are also made available through the Roots College for Film and Media. Also offered are multimedia, VFX and Animation courses besides certification in ACCA, diplomas in culinary arts, film making and finishing school. Currently, it has 1,500 students in 23 courses on four campuses with an alumni strength of over 15,000.
“It has been a challenging and fulfilling experience, so far. We are the first college to introduce entrepreneurship for students at the undergraduate level and industry-academia interaction for practical training. We also have 100 per cent placements for students. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the classes are being held online,” says Roots Collegium chairman, BP Padala.
