Hyderabad: As the city grows, its infrastructure is also being enhanced to meet the growing requirements. As part of such development and to match the traffic density in the bustling IT corridor and its vicinity, two major service roads in the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority limits are being widened.
The 7.5 km Nanakramguda – Telangana State Police Academy stretch and the 14.5 km Narsingi-Kollur stretch are the two-lane roads that are being widened to four-lane roads at an estimated cost of Rs.300 crore by the Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited (HGCL), a wing of HMDA.
The HGCL plans to complete the road widening works by February 2023. Currently, underground utilities are being shifted and works are underway at a brisk pace, an HMDA official said.

“As a part of environmental conservation, trees along the stretches will be translocated. The junctions on these roads will also be beautified by developing greenery,” he said.
The widening is proposed with lane carriageways, footpaths, central medians, drains and greenery. Once these roads are widened, commuters using the ORR service roads to reach Gachibowli, HITEC City, Nanakramguda, Kondapur and other locations will be benefited. Currently, during peak hours, commuters using these service roads are facing difficulty due to the existing narrow two-lane service roads.
Meanwhile, to provide a hassle-free commute, the HGCL is also restoring the entire Outer Ring Road stretch connecting Gachibowli to Shamshabad.
“This part of the ORR spread over 24 km is being restored with Rs.87 crore. The plan is complete the works by June this year. Currently, bitumen is being laid on the stretch,” an HMDA official said.
The Gachibowli to Shamshabad ORR stretch has turned out to be an important road connecting the eastern and southern parts of the city to the IT corridor. People living in LB Nagar, Attapur, Rajendra Nagar, Badangpet, Adibatla and other areas use this ORR stretch to reach Nanakramguda, Madhapur, Gachibowli and other areas. People from Kondapur, Nanakramguda and other areas too use this ORR stretch to reach the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad.
