Hyderabad: In an example of youth-led change, a group of Class 12 students from a private school in Moinabad mandal have come forward to address one of the most neglected issues in adolescent health – menstrual hygiene.
Calling their initiative Project Pari, the students raised Rs.1 lakh to work towards menstrual hygiene and collaborated with Learning Space Foundation, a Hyderabad-based NGO.
Through their program ‘Period Matters’, the NGO has been creating safe spaces for adolescents to openly talk about menstruation — a subject often wrapped in silence and stigma. By involving boys and men in the conversation, the program fosters empathy and allyship, encourages dialogue within families, and creates a more supportive environment for girls and women.
Awareness sessions have been conduced at ZPHS Kondakal in Shankarpally mandal and ZPHS Aziz Nagar in Moinabad mandal, Ranga Reddy district.
Head Master of ZPHS Aziz Nagar T. Venkatesh appreciated the initiative and emphasized that such programs are essential to break taboos and encourage healthy dialogue among students.
