Hyderabad: Doctors at Gleneagles Global Hospitals have treated a 91-year-old man, who had tested Covid positive and also suffered multiple fractures due to a fall. The patient was rushed to the hospital on April 30 after suffering multiple fractures at home.
On testing positive for Covid in the hospital, the doctors immediately isolated the patient and started the treatment for Covid-19. Care was taken to ensure the fractures do not aggravate while the patient recovered in isolation, doctors said.
Initially, the patient was put under the care of Dr. Sudhir Prasad, pulmonologist and his team, who treated the patient for Covid. At such an advanced age, ensuring virus does not spread deep was extremely important, and once the patient was for surgery, he was operated on to fix hip bone complex fracture and fractured wrist femur bone, said orthopaedic and arthroplasty surgeon, Dr VV Satyanarayana.
Following surgery, the patient was put on monitoring for a week in the post-operative ward. Meanwhile, the patient continued to receive treatment from pulmonology departmentand was discharged once he tested negative for Covid. The patient is now able to walk with support and would be leading a normal life in the coming days, he added.
