Hyderabad: A 19-year-old, who allegedly killed his friend after pushing him into a well at Golconda and tried to portray it as a case of accidental drowning, was arrested by the Golconda police on Tuesday.
Mohammed Irfan, 19, an auto trolley driver from Shamshabad had gone along with the victim Mohd Ajju Ali, 21, of Risala Bazar in Golconda to a well at Qutbshahi Masjid Attarasidie in Golconda area on May 10.
“Irfan pushed Ajju into the water twice. As the victim did not know how to swim, he drowned,” City Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar said.
The body surfaced in the water the next evening. The Golconda police, after initial enquiries, had shifted the body to the Osmania Hospital mortuary. The body remained unknown till Ajju’s family approached the police saying he was missing.
“After identifying the body, they raised suspicion on his death and asked the police to probe in all angles. The police, based on a few leads, picked up Irfan who admitted to the killing,” Anjani Kumar said, adding that there was an issue pertaining to a woman between Irfan and Ajju, which led to the murder.
