Police said they seized 34 bags of gun powder weighing about 1.3 tons, 450 kilos of Sodium Nitrate, 100kg of Sulphur and other material from them
Hyderabad: The South Zone Task Force along with the Falaknuma police on Friday announced the arrest of two persons who were indulging in illegal manufacturing and selling of gun powder. Police said they seized 34 bags of gun powder weighing about 1.3 tons, 450 kilos of Sodium Nitrate, 100kg of Sulphur and other material from them.
The arrested persons were Mohd. Zainulabedin Shabbir (57) from Edi Bazaar and Hameed Khan (49), a coal supplier from Shahalibanda. Shabbir’s father has been running a gun powder business for a long time with a valid license. Due to family disputes, Shabbir started his own business as he was aware of the preparation and marketing of the explosive material. He came into contact with Nazeer Ahmed Khan, a coal powder supplier and the duo started making gun powder without a valid license.
“They started making gun powder and sold it for Rs 45 per kg to Satish and Vishnuvardhan, two construction contractors in Karimnagar. They used to transport the gun powder via private transport agencies. Once the material is received, Satish and Vishnuvardhan will then transfer money through online,” said an official. Following a tip-off, the police raided the coal depot at Fathima Nagar in Vattepally in Falaknuma and caught the duo late on Thursday.
They were handed over to the Falaknuma police for further action.
