Hyderabad’s 2025 food trends revealed: Biryani tops Swiggy charts
Hyderabad lived up to its reputation as India’s Biryani Capital in 2025, consuming a staggering 175 lakh plates, with Chicken Biryani alone accounting for 108 lakh orders. Swiggy data revealed Veg Dosa and Idli as the next most popular dishes.

Hyderabad: People in Hyderabad not just craved for Biryani in 2025 but consumed 175 lakh of them, staying true to its title as the Biryani Capital of India.
Chicken Biryani led from the front with 108 lakh orders, holding its place as the city’s most loved dish. The rice and masala-based dish orders on Swiggy from Hyderabad constituted 18 percent of Biryanis ordered across India.
Statistics released by Swiggy, an on-demand convenience platform, revealed that Veg dosa was the second-most ordered food with 39.9 lakh orders last year, while Idli (34 lakh orders) was in third place.
Veg dosa emerged as the most preferred breakfast choice with 19.5 lakh orders and Idli followed closely with 18.1 lakh orders, alongside Veg Vada. Hyderabadis also placed 22.13 lakh high-protein orders, ranking third nationally.
Evening snack cravings between 3 pm and 7 pm saw Chicken Burgers taking the lead with 6.8 lakh orders, followed by Chicken Fry (5.9 lakh orders). Other popular snack-time companions included Chicken Shawarma, Veg Pizza and Veg Puff.
Late-night ordering between 12 am and 2 am was led by Chicken Biryani, with over 6 lakh orders, followed by Chicken Burger and Chicken Shawarma. As for desserts Boondi Ladoo (3.3 lakh orders) emerged as the city’s favourite sweet, followed by Chocolate Cake and Gulab Jamun.
Beyond the regional favourite cuisines from Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu that grew by over 20 percent year-on-year, Hyderabad also showed love for Gujarati and Bengali cuisines, with orders growing over 14 percent in the past year.
In addition, a customer placed a huge feast order comprising 10 Apollo Fish, 11 Putta Godugula Vepudu, 13 Kaju Kodi Roast and 42 plates of Biryani.
Swiggy Food Marketplace Chief Business Officer Sidharth Bhakoo said, “From late-night indulgences to premium dining out, Hyderabad embraced the rich tapestry of culture through food.”
