Hyderabad: In a first-of-its-kind initiative, Hyderabad-based KIMS Sunshine Hospital, Begumpet, launched Augmented Reality (AR)-enabled outpatient (OPD) services on Wednesday.

The technology provides real-time visualisation of internal organs and conditions on the patient’s body using AR-based scans — akin to a Google Map of the human body.

Dr AV Gurava Reddy, managing director of KIMS Sunshine Hospital, said the innovation enables doctors to identify conditions such as tumours, cancers, ulcers, and other internal problems through AR-based scanning, thereby enhancing both diagnosis and treatment planning.

The hospital is collaborating with SKIA, a South Korean medical technology company, to introduce the AR-based OPD experience in India.

The application is initially being implemented in departments such as medical and surgical gastroenterology, urology, gynaecology, hepatology, cardiology, and neurosurgery.

The AR platform supports patient education, surgical planning, and consultation by converting CT and MRI data into interactive 3D visualisations.
