This Hyderabadi, who is excited about her next single 'Mashallah', also plans to release a Telugu reggae music video which is set to blow people’s minds
Sravya Kothalanka is a familiar name in the live music scene in Hyderabad. The singer, who goes by the stage name Lady Skavya, has now shifted to Goa where she performs and has a new project called The Zeggae Collective, which is a mix of jazz and reggae.
After releasing singles such as New Revolution and Last Night that are streaming on Spotify, she has been working on creating more new music. Most of them are collaborations with international artists and some are local too. Her next single is titled Mashallah.
“Loads of music is coming up. While some are my own releases, some are international releases with collaborations with artistes from UK, Jamaica, Japan, and Poland. I’m excited about my next release, Mashallah, as it’s a bit offbeat compared to the reggae music I’ve been doing. This one is a jazz hop and shows a super different side of me. Also, I have big plans of releasing a Telugu reggae song music video, which might blow people’s mind,” says Sravya.
It all started for the singer with posting her singing videos on Facebook, and she was soon called by musicians to accompany them for live shows. Later, she went on to write songs and perform her own music. And now, after doing music for almost six years, labels and films have found her.
“I did the lyrical part of an Aparna Malladi movie alongside Sweekar Agasthi and even did my cameo in the music video. The Telugu film industry cannot believe that I’m a Telugu girl. The amount of people who ask me if I’m from Sri Lanka or Goa is countless. I’m a simple woman not running behind showbiz and do not agree to get exploited,” she shares.
What motivated her to move to Goa? “Goa was the dream. I was very young when I started manifesting this life. One day, I took a ticket and left for Goa, quite broke actually. When I took the microphone, it felt like life gave me a second chance. It’s hard and sturdy but you keep on making your mark, and one day you realize you’re doing something impactful,” says Sravya, who is also into sketching and painting.
“I’ve been inactive compared to the rigorous painter I was all my life. In fact, I recently did a wall mural in Hyderabad and headed back. I’m designing jewelry and merchandise currently,” she adds.
