Ice facials gain popularity as a quick fix for puffiness and skin refresh
Ice facials using chilled rollers, ice water dips and cold compresses are becoming a popular skincare trend for reducing puffiness and refreshing skin. Experts say benefits are temporary and caution against overuse, especially for sensitive or reactive skin types.
Hyderabad: A bowl of ice water, chilled rollers and frozen face dips have become a common part of many skincare routines. Ice facials are often seen as a quick way to refresh the skin, reduce puffiness and achieve a temporary glow, especially during hot weather.
The technique mainly works by constricting blood vessels, which can help reduce swelling and calm redness for a short period of time. Many people use ice facials in the morning to depuff the face or make the skin appear tighter and more refreshed. The cooling sensation can also feel soothing after long days outdoors or during humid weather.
Many people now prefer dipping their face briefly into ice-cold water rather than applying ice directly to the skin, as it tends to feel gentler and less irritating. Short ice-water dips and chilled rollers are generally considered milder compared to rubbing ice cubes directly onto the face.
However, using extreme cold on the skin for too long can sometimes irritate sensitive skin or weaken the skin barrier. Extremely cold temperatures may also trigger redness, dryness or discomfort, particularly for people with conditions like rosacea or highly reactive skin.
While ice facials may temporarily reduce puffiness and make the skin look more refreshed, they do not create permanent changes in pore size or skin texture. The process is usually kept short, lasting only a few minutes at a time, and works best when combined with consistent skincare habits like hydration, sunscreen and barrier care.
