IIIT-Hyderabad’s smart city challenge announces winners
Out of these, an internal panel selected 70 startups that got an opportunity to be listed in the smart city innovation registry. A total of 14 startups were handpicked to pitch in front of the smart city innovation ecosystem leaders.

Hyderabad: International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Hyderabad has announced the winners of Smart City Startup Challenge 2021 which happened as part of its Smart City Living Labs. The challenge attracted 150+ applications from innovative smart city startups across water, waste management, health, energy, safety and security sectors in May and June.
Out of these, an internal panel selected 70 startups that got an opportunity to be listed in the smart city innovation registry. A total of 14 startups were handpicked to pitch in front of the smart city innovation ecosystem leaders. MinionLabs India Private Limited & Vacus Tech Pvt Ltd were announced winners and will be awarded with the equity free grant of Rs 5 lakh each and an opportunity to do a pilot.
Vacus Tech aims to make cities/ data centres go towards a green approach through its US-patented technology. They have developed a sensor that is capable of indoor location and tracking, temperature and humidity measurement, vibration measurement, and low-power. MinionLabs India is an energy auditing device that has the ability to analyse data for valuable insights with non-intrusive energy management solutions.
The challenge was launched by the Smart City Living Labs at IIIT Hyderabad in association with the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) and the National Smart City Mission. It aims to bring the private and public sector together with research facilities to work on the challenges of smart cities. The Living Lab is also supported by corporate founding partners Silicon Labs and Intel.
