IIT-Hyderabad celebrates 13th foundation day virtually
Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India Dr K Vijay Raghavan delivered the key address on 13th Foundation Day celebrations

Sangareddy: Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India Dr K Vijay Raghavan on Tuesday said there was an urgent need to restore human interaction with environment in a constructive manner. “From Economy 2050, we should look at Environment 2050. We cannot assert growth without influencing our surroundings,” he said.
Delivering the 13th Foundation Day speech of the Indian Institute of Technology-Hyderabad (IIT-H) celebrated in virtual mode, Prof Raghavan said: “It is important to understand that science is for the people and the people should be with science. I urge that we should focus on connecting India and Bharat, women’s empowerment, women in leadership roles and bridge the gap between knowledge, power, technology and understanding to change the world and attend to the important matter of climate change, biodiversity loss, and the environment.”
In his inaugural address Prof BS.Murty, Director IIT-H said: “This year has been an exciting journey for the IIT-H. Being in the Top 10 NIRF ranking among engineering institutes for the 5th consecutive year and entering for the first time into the Top 600 in the QS World Ranking are not small achievements for an institute that is just 12 years old. These are not just the numbers, but the reflection of the strong academic and research foundation laid by our faculty and nurtured year after year by our faculty and students.”
He said the online M.Tech, PhD Fellowship for foreign students, Joint Doctoral Programmes with top-ranked overseas universities and new BTech programmes, demonstrated the commitment of the IIT-H fraternity towards a unique and world-class Academic ecosystem.
“Also batteries for Mars Mission, Electric Vehicle, solutions for Black Fungus, unique hygiene products reveal that research goes hand in hand with academics at IIT-H,” he said, and thanked the faculty, research scholars, students and staff for their role in making IIT-H one of the top technological institute within a short period of 12 years.
Congratulating IIT-H on having a wonderful year, Dr BVR Mohan Reddy, Chairman Board of Governors IIT-H said, “IIT-H is fairly a young institute and yet making it to the Top 10 technical institutes in the country for the last 3 years. It has significantly improved its QS Ranking being among the top 46 % institutes and being the best among the second generation IITs. It is an amazing achievement and contribution by the Director, faculty, students and best of supporting staff of the institution. I share a strong bonding with IIT-H. Just yesterday, I witnessed a momentous occasion of Cyient endowed a chair in future communication at the premier institute.”
Various Academic, Research and Administrative Excellence Awards were also announced on the occasion. It includes the Research Excellence award for the students, given for the first time this year to Kuppa Venkata Mridula, BTech, Department of Mechanical Engineering.
