The stomach, duodenum, pancreas, small bowel, and large intestine (right colon) were transplanted all at once. The highly complex surgery, which included medical teams from multiple health specialities of OGH, lasted for 36 hours.

This is for the first time that such a complex surgery was done in a Government hospital. The  transplantation, which will never be taken up at a private hospital due to the risks involved, was conducted free of cost under the Aarogyasri health insurance scheme, doctors said.

Health Minister, Damodar Raja Narasimha congratulated the medical team for the achievement which reflects the immense talent of doctors in government hospitals in Telangana.
