Hyderabad: Olympian Gurpreet Singh’s ninth-place finish was the best result Indian shooters could manage, as they failed to secure any medals in the 25m Standard Pistol event at the Olympic Shooting Range in Cairo, Egypt. China’s Yao Qianxun continued her impressive run at the world championships, clinching her third individual gold medal, adding to the 10m Air Pistol mixed team gold and a silver in the 25m Sports Pistol event. Adrian Schaub of Switzerland emerged as the men’s world champion.

India remained in third position behind China and South Korea in the medal tally with three gold, five silver, and four bronze medals. China leads with 12 gold, seven silver, and two bronze medals, while Korea has seven gold and three each of silver and bronze.

In the men’s event, Gurpreet Singh shot a total of 571-14x for his ninth-place finish. Fellow shooters Udhayveer Sidhu and Rajkanwar Singh Sandhu finished 23rd and 24th with scores of 561-9x and 559-6x respectively. Yeongjae Cho of South Korea won silver, while Ukraine’s Pavlo Korostylov claimed bronze.

In the women’s category, Parisha Gupta finished 10th—the highest among Indian shooters—with a score of 556-11x. Shikha Chaudhary shot 555-11x to finish 12th, while Agam Grewal scored 547-9x for 19th place.
