Hyderabad: With the Ministry of Civil Aviation notifying new Drone Rules, experts from the sector feel that India is on way to becoming the Drone Hub by 2030 and has the potential to grab 25 per cent of global market.
Speaking at a panel discussion titled Making India a Global Drone Hub by 2023: Issues and Way Forward, Ministry of Civil Aviation Joint Secretary Amber Dubey said, “India has the potential to become a Drone Hub by 2030 with a potential to getting 25 per cent global market share even as the new regulations will aid the process. While right now, we are importing many of the drone parts, we are hopeful that once some progress happens in the manufacturing and design side, we will be able to make drones in India soon.”
Reiterating his views, Aarav Unmanned Systems co-founder and CEO Vipul Singh said that the India becoming a drone hub will happen in two phases with first phase will concentrate on having a higher share of drones for Indian companies and reducing dependency on global firms and the second phase will be of capturing higher global share.
Smit Shah, president, Drone Federation of India, said, “We already have the ecosystem and only a few gaps need to be filled and the opening of the drone regulation and financial incentive along with ban on imported items are the key pillars to make India a drone hub.”
The experts agreed that not just make in India drones, the country also need design in India drones with local companies having control over the IP and they also informed that the accelerated adoption of technology will further boost the sector.
