Indian Photo Festival gets off to a grand start

Hyderabad: The seventh edition of Indian Photo Festival (IPF) got off to a grand start on Thursday with the book launch of ‘That Which Is Unseen’ that was authored by photo-journalist and curator Prashanth Panjiar.

The month-long exhibition that is being held at the State Gallery of Art in Madhapur was inaugurated by Telangana Minister of Prohibition & Excise V Srinivas Goud. As many as 1,500 photographs from 450 photographers hailing from 35 countries across the globe are currently on display.

The works of renowned photographers like Roger Ballen, Martin Parr, Linda Bournane Engelberth, Arati Kumar Rao, Divya Cowasji, Harsha Vadlamani, Rut Blees Luxemburg, Siva Sai Jeevanatham, Karen Dias, Ruhani Kaur, Sharbendu De, and Sathyaprasad Yachendra, among others, are on display.

Prashanth Panjiar, in conversation with Hyderabad-based author Ratna Rao Shekar, shared his experiences spanning three decades of photo-journalism career.

Covering wide-ranging subjects from his self-financed work on the dacoits in Chambal valley to the events of anti-Sikh riots and communal conflicts in the country, Panjiar’s newly-released book is a compilation of back stories through his images and words.

The IPF will be in a hybrid format with interactive sessions like talks, screenings, workshops and portfolio reviews online via virtual platforms and with physical installations of print exhibitions at the State Gallery of Art, Madhapur, and along the outer walking trail of the KBR Park.

Digital exhibitions, too, will be showcased at the State Gallery of Art, and some fascinating Virtual 3D exhibitions will be presented online.
