Hyderabad: Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan’s name is once again in the news as police continue investigating an alleged assault on his former manager, Vipin Kumar. New twists have emerged in the case, adding fuel to the ongoing confusion over who officially represents the actor.
The InfoPark police on Thursday, July 10, visited Unni Mukundan’s Kochi flat to record his statement regarding the complaint filed by Vipin Kumar. According to the police, the actor cooperated fully and repeated his denial of all assault allegations. The investigation is now moving towards the final chargesheet.
The incident first came to light last month when Vipin Kumar lodged a complaint stating that he was attacked by Unni Mukundan at the actor’s residence. Vipin alleges that the assault happened after he posted a social media story praising actor Tovino Thomas’s film Narivetta, which reportedly upset Unni because his film had underperformed. Vipin claims he was verbally abused, pushed down, and kicked during the altercation. He says he sought treatment at a nearby hospital before approaching the police and also filed a complaint with FEFKA.
Unni Mukundan has strongly denied the claims. In his statement, he maintained that he did not physically assault Vipin but admitted that he threw a mirror in anger, calling it an emotional outburst, not an act of violence. The actor has also dismissed the narrative that he was offended by praise for Tovino Thomas, saying there is no rivalry between them.
Amidst this, an unexpected development has added to the growing attention around the case. Rincy, a YouTuber who some media reports claim is Unni Mukundan’s current PR manager, was recently arrested along with her boyfriend for alleged possession of MDMA. The police seized 22.5 grams of the drug from a flat in Palachuvad and registered a separate narcotics case. This incident has drawn more scrutiny to the people claiming to represent the actor.
However, Rincy’s past posts on social media reveal a different, more personal side to her connection with the actor. In a heartfelt Facebook post shared after the success of Marco, she described Unni Mukundan as someone she respected beyond his stardom. “I met an actor named Unni Mukundan.. talked to him. Then he would call me here and there and give me work.. Sometimes he would call me and tell me bad things.. Then he would call me again and say something.. From all that conversation, I understood that man well, not the actor named Unni Mukundan..!” she wrote, adding that for her, he is a “superstar” because of how he fought isolation and criticism to make Marco a blockbuster success. Despite their arguments, she recalled that when they met after the film’s victory, he shook her hand and said “thanks” with a smile, a memory she said meant more to her than anything else.
Yet, despite such warm moments, Unni Mukundan has issued a clear public statement refuting any ties with personal managers. He clarified through his social media that he does not have, and has never appointed, any individual as his manager. According to him, all professional dealings are handled either by him or through his production company, Unni Mukundan Films (UMF). He also warned fans and industry professionals to be cautious about people misusing his name and stressed that legal action will be taken against those spreading false claims.
These back-to-back controversies have left many confused about who speaks for the actor. While Vipin claims he was once Unni’s manager and Rincy has expressed deep admiration for him in the past, the actor maintains that no such designations exist. This contradiction has sparked debates within the film industry and among fans about whether the actor’s name is being dragged into disputes unnecessarily.
As the police prepare to file the final report, the case has raised more questions than it has answered. For now, the spotlight remains firmly on the actor’s circle, with industry insiders watching closely to see how the situation unfolds. With allegations, arrests, and emotional revelations all swirling together, only time will tell if the confusion over Unni Mukundan’s so-called ‘managers’ will be resolved, or if it will keep resurfacing in unexpected ways.
