Innovative by-products showcased at ‘Dragon Fruit Festival’ in Sangareddy
Farmers like BNR Exotics Ramesh Reddy, Madan Mohan, Srinivas Reddy and others shared their views on how they started the cultivation and what kind of challenges they faced during the cultivation, and marketing of their harvest.
Horticulture University Vice-chancellor Prof Neeraja Prabhakar is looking at a variety of dragon fruits displayed during the dragon fruit festival oraganised in Sangareddy on Tuesday.
Sangareddy: Horticulture officials and dragon fruit farmers observed that there was a great potential for dragon cultivation in India. Since the country was aiming to increase the area under dragon fruit cultivation to 50,000 hectares from the existing 15,000 hectares by 2025-26 to stop the imports from Vietnam and other countries, officials said farmers could opt for the cultivation of dragon fruit.
Addressing farmers during a dragon fruit festival organised at the fruit research station (FRS) in Sangareddy on Tuesday, Horticulture Unversity Vice-chancellor Prof Neeraja Prabhakar said there would be numerous challenges when a farmer takes up a new crop. However, Telangana farmers had adopted well and reaped rich benefits in dragon fruit farming.

The farmers said they could get the harvest up to 15 years once they master the cultivation practices. Meanwhile, Ramesh Reddy exhibited various by-products made by him with dragon fruit.
