Intelligence constable’s wife helps reunite missing student with family
The presence of mind of an intelligence constable’s wife helped trace a seventh-grade student who left his Gurukul hostel without informing authorities. The boy was safely reunited with his family, and the couple was later felicitated by senior officials.

Kothagudem: The presence of mind and quick thinking of an Intelligence wing constable’s wife ensured the safe return of a seventh-grade student who left his hostel without informing the school authorities.
The 12-year-old boy, a resident of Polishettigudem village in Khammam Rural mandal in Khammam district, was studying at the Social Welfare Gurukul School at Mandalapalli in Dammapet mandal in Kothagudem district. Disliking hostel life, he left the school without informing anyone during afternoon hours on February 1, 2026.
The boy reached Sathupalli from Mandalapalli by a Palle Velugu bus and then boarded a bus to Khammam. Lakshmi, the wife of an intelligence constable N Krishna Rao working at Dammapet, who was travelling on the same bus, noticed the boy travelling alone and looking anxious. She spoke to him and inquired about his details. Realising that the boy had left the hostel, she immediately informed her husband, Krishna Rao, who brought the matter to the attention of Regional Intelligence Officer Ramoji Ramesh.
Following his instructions, Gurukul principal Venkateshwarlu was alerted. As the bus reached Khammam bus stand, with the help of on-duty police officers, the boy was identified and safely handed over to his father Chandrashekar, who had already been informed about his son’s travel.
Recognising the responsibility, humanity and presence of mind displayed by intelligence constable Krishna Rao and his wife Lakshmi in the incident, ADGP (Intelligence) Vijay Kumar, IGP (Intelligence) Karthikeya and other senior officials felicitated the couple at their office in Hyderabad. A cash reward of Rs. 10,000 was presented to them.
The senior officials stated that every employee should work with similar vigilance and responsibility towards the public and that even a small piece of information could prevent a major disaster. They praised Lakshmi for her quick action in ensuring the safe return of the boy to his family members.
