Sangareddy: TPCC Working President and former Sangareddy MLA T Jagga Reddy’s statement that the widening of the Sangareddy bypass road would be restricted to just 50 feet has attracted criticism on social media.

Residents of Sangareddy raised strong objections to Jagga Reddy’s comments on the widening of the road. According to officials, the R&B Department had a 66-foot-wide kutcha road here. However, a 22.5-foot-wide road was laid a few decades ago to meet the needs of the people at the time.

As Sangareddy town witnessed rapid development over the last couple of decades, traffic flow increased manifold on the 2.265-km-long road connecting Sangareddy main road at the I&B Guest House with NH-65 at the Basaveshwara statue.

As the stretch was witnessing constant traffic jams, the HMDA had sanctioned Rs 12 crore to widen the road to 80 feet, considering future needs as well. However, Jagga Reddy has now disclosed that he asked the HMDA to restrict the widening of the road to just 50 feet to avoid demolitions. He further blamed Sangareddy MLA Chintha Prabhakar, accusing him of stalling the works as the MLA was insisting on widening the road as per the original plan.

Jagga Reddy’s statements, which were posted on social media, attracted widespread criticism. Accusing Jagga Reddy of trying to lure voters by limiting the road widening, citizens criticised him for allegedly lacking a vision for the development of the town.

Some social media users said Reddy would not even win the coming elections if he continued to make such decisions. Since the town was witnessing rapid development, they urged the government to widen the road to 80 feet to meet the future needs of the town.

Meanwhile, social media users lashed out at Reddy for passing the blame on to the BRS MLA. “What is the meaning of restricting the road widening to just 50 feet, even though a 66-foot-wide road was already available?” a citizen questioned. The citizen said Jagga Reddy was trying to influence voters by shielding encroachments made on the road, but would not succeed in his attempt as the entire town was watching his moves closely.
