Jagitial SI Shivakrishna and his driver Ravi, who were trapped by ACB police on Thursday
Jagitial: Anti-Corruption Bureau sleuths have arrested Jagitial town Sub-Inspector Shivakrishna and his driver Kadapa Ravi for demanding bribe from a person in connection with a case.
According to ACB police, Katta Mounika, a resident of Vidhyanagar of Jagitial town, filed a complaint against her husband Rajesh and in-laws on March 30, 2001, for dowry harassment. A dowry harassment case was registered against Rajesh and four others. The then SI Shankar Naik sanctioned station bail to five persons.
Shivakrishna, who recently took charge as SI, revived the case and threatened to arrest the five persons if they failed to give Rs 50,000 bribe. Rajesh and his family members were allegedly harassed by the cop who summoned them to the police station. Unable to bear the harassment, the victims agreed to pay Rs 30,000.
Rajesh, who was not keen on paying the bribe, approached ACB police, who hatched a plan and trapped the SI and his driver. Instead of accepting the bribe directly from the victim, the SI instructed his driver Ravi to take the amount. While Ravi was accepting the amount in SI’s car outside the police station, ACB police led by DSP Badraiah rushed to the spot and caught Ravi.
On questioning, Ravi informed that he had accepted the money based on instructions by SI. Both SI Shivakrishna and driver Ravi were arrested by ACB police.
