Jagtial: A car that plunged into Kakatiya canal near Vellulla of Metpalli mandal late on Monday night was traced by rescue teams on Wednesday. Two bodies were found in the vehicle.
The deceased were identified as Pudari Revanth Goud and Gundaveni Prasad Goud of Metpalli town.
Some local residents saw the car plunging into Kakatiya canal late on Monday night, and by Tuesday, it had spread like wildfire in the town.
According to police, the deceased left their homes on Monday night and did not return. Prasad Goud’s brother Sagar Goud lodged a complaint with the police on Tuesday. Based on the complaint, police began investigations and examined CCTV footage in the town.
The CCTV footage in a bar and restaurant on the outskirts of Metpalli revealed that the car in which the deceased were travelling was proceeding towards Vellulla from Metpalli at 12.45 am. A CCTV camera fixed near Vellulla, however, did not show the vehicle’s movement.
Based on the CCTV footage as well as news of a vehicle plunging into the canal, police came to the conclusion that the car plunged into the canal and began a search operation with the help of professional swimmers.
On Wednesday morning, they found the car in the canal some distance away from the accident spot and retrieved the vehicle with the help of a crane. Bodies of Revanth and Prasad were found in the vehicle.
The bodies were shifted to Metpalli government hospital for postmortem.
